Green River is a city in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 11,808 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Sweetwater County. The mayor of Green River is Dave Gomez, although he was defeated in the 2006 primary election by Hank Castillion and Randy Walker, who will face off in the general election. Its importance as part of the Dakota Territory was enhanced when it was made a division point for the Union Pacific railway in 1868, the year of its incorporation.
