Blackwell is a city in Kay County, Oklahoma, along the Chikaskia River. The population was 7,668 at the 2000 census.

In 1955, on the 25th of May, a deadly tornado struck Blackwell at approx. 9:30 at night and cut a swath of destruction through the city. 20 residents died and 250 were injured. The same tornado moved on to the north to strike Udall and took the town's 800 residents by total surpise. 77 people died and 270 were injured.
